If you’ve ever sat in an interior designer’s office and heard the words “we use only CenturyPly” or “we work exclusively with Greenply” — and nodded along without really knowing what that means — this guide is for you. Plywood grade is the single most consequential material decision in any home interior project, and it’s almost always made by your designer or contractor without a proper explanation to you of what you’re actually getting.
At Flairwood Interiors, we use both CenturyPly and Greenply across our projects in Bangalore — and we specify different grades for different applications. This guide explains the difference between the two brands, what the grade names actually mean, which applications need which grade, and how to verify you’re getting what you’re paying for.
The short answer, for homeowners in a hurry: both are excellent brands. The grade you specify matters far more than the brand you choose.
Step 01 · The Basics
What Plywood Grade Actually Means — Explained Simply
Moisture Resistant only. Handles humidity but not direct water exposure. Swells and delaminates in bathrooms or kitchens over time.
❌ Never use for:
Kitchens, bathrooms, near wet areas, or anywhere in Bangalore’s high-humidity seasons
Price range: ₹45–70/sq ft
Recommended
💧
BWR Grade
Boiling Water Resistant
Withstands prolonged moisture exposure. Ideal for most interior applications including wardrobes, kitchen carcasses, and living room furniture.
✓ Best for:
Wardrobes, TV units, living room furniture, bedroom carpentry, false ceiling frames
Price range: ₹85–130/sq ft
🔥
BWP Grade
Boiling Water Proof
Highest durability. Withstands boiling water immersion. Mandatory for bathrooms and kitchen wet zones in Bangalore’s humid climate.
✓ Must use for:
Bathroom vanities, under-sink cabinets, kitchen base units, marine/exterior applications
Price range: ₹130–200+/sq ft
⚠️
The most common scam in Bangalore interior projects: quoting BWR or BWP in the BOQ but delivering commercial-grade plywood on site. The sheets look identical once painted or laminated. Always ask to see the plywood invoice and check for the ISI mark (IS:303 for commercial, IS:303 BWR/BWP for water-resistant grades) stamped on the sheet edge.
Step 02 · The Brand Comparison

Recommended
Why It Matters
Kitchen base units
BWP only
Club Prime / GreenClub BWP
Steam, spills, and Bangalore humidity destroy commercial grade within 3 years
Bathroom vanity
BWP only
Club Prime / GreenClub BWP
Constant humidity — anything less swells within 12–18 months

BWR minimum
Club Prime BWR

Study / home office unit
BWR / MR ok
GreenClub BWR
Low moisture exposure — MR grade works but BWR future-proofs the build
Pooja unit / crockery unit
BWR / MR ok
Either BWR
Minimal moisture — MR grade acceptable but BWR preferred for longevity

🎯
Flairwood’s Actual Specification Practice
We don’t pick one brand exclusively — we specify the right grade from the right brand for each application. CenturyPly Club Prime BWP for all kitchen base units and bathroom vanities. CenturyPly Club Prime BWR for wardrobes with heavy hardware. Greenply GreenClub BWR for living room and bedroom carpentry where the screw-holding premium of CenturyPly isn’t necessary. We never use commercial-grade plywood anywhere in a finished interior — regardless of budget. The cost difference between commercial and BWR on a full 2BHK project is ₹15,000–25,000. The cost of redoing warped carpentry in year 4 is ₹80,000+.
Step 05 · Protect Yourself
How to Verify You’re Getting What You Paid For
1
Specify brand AND grade in the BOQ — not just “branded plywood”
“CenturyPly Club Prime BWR 19mm” is a specification. “Branded plywood, BWR grade” is not — it allows substitution of any brand or thickness. Every line item in your BOQ should name the brand, product line, grade, and thickness.
2
Ask to see the sheet edges before cutting
Both CenturyPly and Greenply stamp the brand name, grade, and ISI certification number on the edge of every sheet. Ask your contractor to show you sheets before they’re cut. A reluctance to do this is a red flag. CenturyPly Club Prime also has a distinctive red core visible at the edge cut.
3
Request the purchase invoice from the timber dealer
A legitimate contractor will have no problem sharing the timber dealer invoice showing brand, grade, and price. The invoice price for CenturyPly Club Prime BWR should be ₹90–130 per sq ft in Bangalore in 2026 — significantly above commercial grade pricing. If the invoice price is suspiciously low, the grade is likely not what was specified.
4
Do the water drop test on offcuts
Ask for offcuts from your project. Place a drop of water on the face and edge of the sheet. On BWR/BWP grade, the water beads and doesn’t absorb quickly. On commercial grade, the edge absorbs water within seconds and you’ll see it darken. Not 100% conclusive, but an immediate indicator worth doing.
Step 06 · The Numbers
The Real Cost Difference — and Why It’s Worth It
For a full 2BHK interior in Bangalore — wardrobe, kitchen, TV unit, and study unit.

💡
The difference between commercial-grade and BWR/BWP plywood for an entire 2BHK interior is approximately ₹15,000–25,000. The cost of replacing warped kitchen base units, delaminated wardrobe shelves, or a swollen bathroom vanity in year 3–5 is ₹60,000–1.5L — plus the disruption of living through a partial renovation. This is the single most cost-effective upgrade decision in any interior project.

Frequently Asked
Common Questions
Is CenturyPly better than Greenply? +
Neither is categorically “better” — both are ISI-certified, well-made products with 25-year warranties. CenturyPly Club Prime has a slight edge in screw-holding strength due to its Gurjan hardwood core, making it preferable for heavy-hardware applications like modular kitchens and large wardrobes. Greenply GreenClub offers comparable performance in most applications at 10–15% lower cost and has stronger sustainability credentials. The grade (BWR vs BWP vs Commercial) matters far more than the brand.
What is the price of CenturyPly in Bangalore in 2026? +
In Bangalore timber markets in 2026, CenturyPly Club Prime BWR (19mm) is priced at approximately ₹90–130 per sq ft depending on the dealer and volume. BWP grade runs ₹140–200 per sq ft. Commercial grade starts at ₹45–70 per sq ft. Always compare prices with the grade clearly specified — commercial-grade pricing looks attractively cheap until the comparison is made on a like-for-like basis.
Can I use BWR plywood in a bathroom? +
For bathroom vanities and under-sink cabinets, we recommend BWP (Boiling Water Proof) grade rather than BWR. BWR handles moisture well but in a bathroom environment with near-constant humidity and occasional direct water splash, BWP provides a meaningful extra margin of durability. The cost difference between BWR and BWP is typically ₹40–70 per sq ft — worth it for a bathroom where redoing the vanity is a major disruption.
How do I check if my contractor used the right plywood? +
Three practical checks: ask to see uncut sheets before fabrication begins (both brands stamp brand name, grade, and ISI number on the sheet edge); request the purchase invoice from the timber dealer (price should match the grade you specified); do the water drop test on offcuts (BWR/BWP grade beads water on the edge, commercial grade absorbs it within seconds). CenturyPly Club Prime also has a distinctive red-coloured core visible at cut edges, which is easy to verify on site.
Does Flairwood use CenturyPly or Greenply? +
Both — specified by application. We use CenturyPly Club Prime BWP for kitchen base units and bathroom vanities, CenturyPly Club Prime BWR for wardrobes with heavy Hettich or Hafele hardware, and Greenply GreenClub BWR for living room, bedroom, and study carpentry. We never use commercial-grade plywood in any finished interior regardless of project budget.
